What the grant pays for
The grant helps pay for a roof built to the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety FORTIFIED Roof standard with the high wind and hail supplement. The work goes beyond normal building code. Examples the department lists:
- Upgraded roof deck attachment
- A sealed roof deck to keep out wind driven rain
- Impact resistant shingles
- Wind resistant attic vents
The department says these upgrades can help a home withstand winds up to about 135 mph.
What you pay
- The independent FORTIFIED evaluation, which typically runs $600 to $800
- Your insurance deductible, if the work is part of a claim
- Any project cost above the grant amount
How to apply
Applications open in rounds and are approved first come, first served. The first 2026 round approved 300 applications and filled by March, and the latest round opened October 12, 2026. More than 500 Oklahoma homes have completed the program since it launched in 2025.
Check eligibility, income tiers and document requirements at oid.ok.gov/okready, and have your documents ready before the next round opens.
Pairing the grant with a hail claim
If hail damage means your roof is being replaced anyway, ask about FORTIFIED before work starts. The program says homeowners pay their own deductible and any cost above the grant, so it can work alongside a roof claim. Confirm the details with the program before you sign.
Finding a FORTIFIED roofer
FORTIFIED work has to be done to the standard and checked by an independent evaluator. Ask whether your roofer is trained to the FORTIFIED standard, and ask AAA Property Restoration LLC when you book your inspection.
